Taking the step to book your first psychiatric appointment is a big deal — and it's completely normal to feel a little nervous or unsure about what to expect. The good news: telehealth psychiatry is designed to be comfortable, private, and straightforward.
Here's exactly what your first appointment at Mental Well-Being Solutions will look like.
Before Your Appointment
After booking online, you'll receive a confirmation email with everything you need. Before your session, you'll complete a brief intake form covering your medical history, current symptoms, medications, and what's bringing you in. This helps your provider make the most of your time together.
Tech checklist for a smooth session: a device with a camera and microphone (phone, tablet, or laptop), a stable internet connection, a private quiet space where you feel comfortable speaking freely.
What Happens During the Session
Your first appointment is typically an initial psychiatric evaluation — usually 60 minutes. Your provider will get to know you, review your medical and psychiatric history, may use standardized screening tools, and will discuss diagnosis and treatment options by the end of the session.
After Your Appointment
You'll receive a summary of your visit and any next steps. If medication is prescribed, your provider will explain what it is, how it works, and what to watch for. Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled every 4–8 weeks depending on your treatment plan.
A Note on Privacy
All sessions at Mental Well-Being Solutions are conducted over a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted video platform. Your health information is protected and never shared without your consent.
You Don't Have to Have It All Figured Out
Many patients come to their first appointment unsure of exactly what's wrong — and that's completely okay. Your provider's job is to help you make sense of what you're experiencing. You don't need to arrive with a diagnosis or a perfectly articulated explanation. Just show up as you are.
